Holding a slim one-point (46-45) lead after three quarters against host Pasadena City College in their South Coast Conference crossover game on Friday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team struggled in the final 10 minutes, which resulted in a 61-53 loss. The Falcons (12-8) converted just 2-of-11 field goals, while the Lancers (12-7) shot 44% from the field in the fourth quarter, as they were outscored, 16-7. Cerritos will look to snap their two-game losing streak on Wednesday when they host Mt. San Antonio College in a 6:00 p.m. conference crossover game.
Pasadena City took a quick lead to start the fourth quarter, but sophomore Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS) put the Falcons back on top, 48-47 on a layup with 8:54 left in the game. It took Cerritos 2:33 to score again, as a free throw from sophomore Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) tied the game at 49-49. A three-pointer by the Lancers Jade Lin started an 11-0 run, which was capped by a Lin layup with only 1:59 left on the clock.
Freshman Jesenia Rendon (Carson HS) converted one of two free throws to end the scoring drought, and even after freshman Serena Rendon (Carson HS) drained a three-pointer, it wasn't enough, as that accounted for the team's final points in the eight-point loss.
Serena Rendon led the team with 17 points, with Jesenia Rendon contributing 13 points and three rebounds off the bench. Ferriera posted 10 points, six steals and four assists, with Clark accounting for five points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Falcons were out-rebounds, 56-33 on the night.
