W. Swimming: Falcons open season at Waterman Festival

In their first competition of the season, the Cerritos College women's swimming team was at the Waterman Festival at Palomar College. The Falcons will continue on Saturday at the Palomar Pentathlon.

There were five events held on the first day, and the duo of freshmen Isabella Sierra (California HS) and Jackie Oliveros (Gahr HS) were two of the top Cerritos swimmers in each event. Sierra just missed out on scoring team points in two of the events, as she finished in 17th place in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 38.48. Her clocking of 1:13.52 put her in 19th place in the 100-yard IM, with the top 16 swimmers recording team points.

As for Oliveros, she finished in 19th place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 34.13, while sophomore Andrea Macapagal (Sonora HS) came in 25th place when she touched up in 34.52. In the 100-yard IM, Oliveros came in 27th place with a time of 1:15.86, while she was 21st in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.56 and Macapagal placed 28th with a time of 28.94. In the 50-yard butterfly, Sierra (32.47) and Oliveros (32.80) were the top two Falcons, as they placed, 24th and 26th, respectively.
