Entering his 10th season (no season in 2020-21 due to Covid-19) as a member of the coaching staff is Joe Pacheco. From 2012-15, Pacheco guided the Mayfair High girls’ basketball team to a pair of Suburban League championships and a combined 60-21 record. Prior to coaching at Mayfair, Pacheco served as the head coach at St. Joseph’s High from 2003-12, while he also coached softball for three seasons. During that time, he helped them win consecutive league championships for the first time in 20 years.
A graduate of Cerritos College in 1978, Pacheco was a three-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball at Paramount High, where he helped them to consecutive San Gabriel Valley League championships. He was also voted the team’s Most Improved Player and Most Inspirational Player.
While coaching at St. Joseph’s, Pacheco and his basketball team attended a taping of the television show Deal or No Deal. He was selected to be a contestant and intended to use his anniversary date (18) as his suitcase, but chose the birthday of his older daughter, Jill. As it turned out, there was $3M in the suitcase of his younger daughter, Danielle’s birthday.
Pacheco, 69, and his wife of 46 years, Pat, reside in Artesia. They had two daughters – Jill (40) and Danielle (36), as well as one grandson, Caleb (5).
