If the Cerritos College men's basketball team was looking for someone to step forward and lead the team to a victory, they need look no further than freshman Dorian Harris (Cerritos HS). The 6-foot-6 forward came off the bench and converted 7-of-11 three-pointers to lead the Falcons to a 79-56 win at Palomar College on Wednesday. Cerritos (2-2) will host Santa Monica College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in their home opener.
After a slow start by both teams, with the Falcons holding a 4-3 lead after the first five minutes of the game, freshman Joshua Harrison (Onate, NM HS) converted the team's first three-pointer to put them in front, 9-6. Harris followed with his first trey of the night with 12:21 left in the first half for a 12-7 advantage. Trailing, 13-12, sophomore Jeremiah Galang (Narbonne HS) got in on the action and netted a long jumper to put Cerritos back on top.
Harrison converted another three-pointer to make it a 21-13 lead with 8:17 left on the clock, and after a pair of Jacob Washington (Washington Prep HS/Los Angeles Harbor College) jumpers, the Falcons opened up a 25-15 lead. Freshman Christian James (Oak Park and River Forest, IL HS) became the fourth different player to connect on a three-pointer, as his put the team up, 35-25 with 1:03 left on the clock.
Getting in on the action in the second half, Cerroy Chenault (Warren HS) put the team in front 48-35 with his three-pointer, with Harrison following with his first of the half to increase the lead to 51-38. The lead became 56-38 with 15:41 left in the game when Harrison dropped his fifth three-pointer of the game. He continued to highlight his shooting prowess with back-to-back long range jumpers a minute later to put Cerritos in front, 64-38, as they went on to cruise to the win.
The Falcons wound up draining a season-high 14 three-pointers, with Harris accounting for his 22 points and four rebounds in just 18 minutes of action. Washington added 17 points, with Chenault contributing seven points, while the duo of Galang and freshman Joshua Belvin (St. Anthony HS) chipping in with six points each.
