The draws have been released for the CCCAA Men's Tennis State Championships, and Cerritos College has the #1-seeded singles player and doubles team from Southern California. The four-day tournament gets underway on Thursday, and the Falcons will be represented by three singles players and three doubles teams.
Sophomore Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist, Australia HS), who reached the quarterfinals at the state championships last season, is seeded #1 from Southern California in singles, and is paired with freshman Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya HS) as the #1 seed in doubles.
Both have earned a bye in the Round of 128 and will start their quest for a state title Thursday morning. Eshmade will face the winner of the Eric Nishimatsu (Foothill College) match against Adrian Belcher of Victor Valley College at 11:00 a.m. at the Oxnard Tennis Center. Kagoma, the #9-seeded player, will face Fresno City College's Wyatt Kershaw at 9:30 a.m. at the Marriott Residence Inn. The Falcons third singles player, freshman Sheldon Hseih (Long Beach Poly HS), will go up against Jack Divorty of Irvine Valley College at 8:00 a.m. at the Oxnard Tennis Center.
Eshmade and Kagoma will play their Round of 64 match on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Oxnard Tennis Center against the winner of the Nathan Cao and Juan Ortiz of Sacramento City College match against Palomar College's Evan Davis and Liam Gannon. Hseih and freshman Nicholas Simonelli (Long Beach Wilson HS) square off against Foothill College's James Han and Alvaro Varon, the #11-seeded team from Northern California at 4:00 p.m. at the Marriott Residence Inn. The final doubles team will also play at the same time and location on Thursday. Sophomore Mark Herrera (Bosco Tech HS) and freshman Milos Zoric (Gimnazji Indijija, Serbia HS) will play Brandon Lew and Geeno Villamo, the Northern California #13-seeded team from Chabot College.
