In their South Coast Conference opener on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team scored the first 17 goals of the game against visiting Rio Hondo College and went on to post an 18-2 victory. Next up for the Falcons (6-3, 1-0) will be a trip to Colorado Springs, where they will compete in the Air Force Tournament. The team will play four games over a three-day period and open against Biola University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
It was a 3-0 lead after the first period, while the Falcons scored six more times in the second period, with sophomore Jacob Colon (Schurr HS) accounting for three of those tallies. Cerritos did get goals from eight different players, with all three goalkeepers seeing action.
Colon and freshman Christian Acosta (Schurr HS) each scored four times in the win, with sophomore Tim Robles (Schurr HS) adding three goals and eight steals. Five different players assisted on a pair of goals, with sophomore Aiden Parra (California HS) playing the majority of the game in goal and turned away eight shots.
