As the lone Cerritos College representative at the 3C2A State Championships, sophomore swimmer Sydney Romero (Cerritos HS/Azusa Pacific University) competed in three events and compiled 19 team points. Romero, who qualified for five events, competed in one event each day over the three-day event at Santa Rosa Junior College over the weekend. She took part in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard IM.

Day 1 - Romero opened with a 16th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She turned in a preliminary time of 25.15, which was slightly off her personal best time of 25.08 from earlier in the season. That qualified her to compete in the B Finals later in the day, with her time of 25.35 placing her 16th. If she was able to match her PR, it would have put her in 13th place in the finals.

Day 2 - Swimming in her specialty, the 100-yard backstroke, Romero was able to place seventh at the championships. The school record holder with a time of 1:00.80 at the South Coast Conference Championships two weeks prior, Romero recorded a prelim time of 1:00.97, which was the sixth fastest time and earned her a spot in the A Finals. She turned in a time of 1:01.37 and finished in seventh place. Matching her school record time would have put her in sixth place.

Day 3 - Taking part in her final event of the season, Romero swam the 100-yard IM. She was clocked in 1:03.97, placing her 12th and earing her a spot in the B Finals. She capped off her Falcons career with an 11th place time, as she touched up in 1:02.74, which was just off her entry time of 1:02.42.

For her effort in the 100-yard backstroke, Romero was named All-American and had the ninth best time in the state for the season, while her time of 1:02.42 in the 100-yard IM was the seventh best in the state during the season and earned her a second All-American award.
