W. Tennis: Cerritos continues their winning ways

As the season quickly progresses into the South Coast Conference Tournament and beyond, the Cerritos College women's tennis team continues to dominate opponents. On Tuesday, the Falcons (19-1, 5-0) won their 17th match in a row with a 9-0 conference win over host El Camino College (4-8, 3-2). The team will try to keep their winning streak going when they host NCAA Division III Wellesley (MA) College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

After sweeping the three doubles matches, with two of them being won by 8-0 scores, top singles player Lisa Suzuki (Fujimigaoka, Japan/Seward (KS) CC) rested, which moved everyone up the ladder. Assuming the #1 position was sophomore Petra Such (Illyes Gyula, Hungary), who recorded a 6-3, 7-5 win, while the remaining five players lost just three games in recording their wins. Sophomores Itzi Torres (ITESM CEM, Mexico/Kansas Wesleyan University) and Diviana Bravo (Rosa de Jesus Cordero, Ecuador) registered 6-0, 6-0 results, while Kseniia Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine), Moa Lindstrom (Dragonskolans Elitidrottgymnasium, Sweden) and Mary Navalta (Norwalk HS) lost one game in the first set and won the second set, 6-0.

Suzuki and Prokopchuk were joined by Torres and Bravo in their 8-0 doubles wins, with Such and Lindstrom posting an 8-2 victory.
