Joe Terry batting for the Dayton Dragons in the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Now in his second
year of professional baseball, former Cerritos College player
Joe Terry continues to learn about the rigors of
the day-to-day grind. Just finishing the season with Class A Dayton
Dragons of the Midwest League in the Cincinnati Reds organization,
Terry continued to work on being an everyday third
baseman, as he played the final 83 games for the
Dragons after opening the season with the Bakersfield Blaze of
the California League. He batted .255 with six home runs and 36
RBI, while clubbing 15 doubles and was fourth on the team with 22
stolen bases. He struggled defensively, but will spend the
off-season working on honing his defensive skills.
While playing for
the Falcons in 2009-10, Terry was named California Community
College Southern California All-American as a freshman, as well
as the South Coast Conference Player of the Year. In
2009, he batted .426 with four home runs, 57 RBI and a
school-record 14 triples. An injury shortened his sophomore
year, but Terry still batted .339 on the season.
After getting
drafted in the 17th Round by the Seattle Mariners at the conclusion
of his freshmen year and then the eighth round by the Chicago White
Sox in 2010, Terry opted to transfer to Cal State Fullerton, where
he was their everyday third baseman the first half of the season
until a hamate-bone injury sidelined him for the remainder of the
season. On the year, Terry batted .257 with nine RBI and in the
2011 MLB Draft, he was selected in the 30th Round by the
Reds.
Terry is joined in the minor leagues by Daniel Nelson, who started the team with Triple-A
Gwinnet Braves of the International League and ended up batting
.314 for the Mississippi Braves in the Southern League in the
Double-A, which are both affiliates in the Atlanta Braves
organization. Nelson was a second baseman for the Falcons in 2003
and played on a conference championship team.
