Now in his fourth season on the Cerritos College women’s coaching staff, Jose Montiel has 12 years of community college, high school and club coaching experience. In addition to his role with the Falcons, Montiel is also the head coach at Bishop Conaty – Our Lady of Loretto High, as well as with the Los Angeles SC in the United Premiere Soccer League and United Women’s Soccer.
From 2022-23, he served as the girls’ head coach at Foshay Learning Center High, where he led the team to a 14-5-2 record and reached the CIF Quarterfinals in his first season. Other coaching experience includes Seleccian IMME U15 and U17 teams (2021-23), Compton College assistant (2021 & 2023), Downtown LA Soccer Club (2020-21), Pachuca Affiliate Academy of Los Angeles (2018-20), Maya Angelou High as the lead assistant coach from 2015-22 and helped them to two CIF semifinal appearances. He was added to the staff in 2016 and saw them advance to the CIF Championship game. Prior to that, he was a volunteer coach on the girls team at Maya Angelou High in 2015.
Also an avid photographer, he has worked for the F.M.F. U15 Mexican National Team Tryouts from 2022-23, as well as with the Sleccian IMME U15 and U17 teams from 2021-23.
A four-year multisport athlete at Maya Angelou High, Montiel was named his school’s Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior. He was also a member of the Pachuca Academy in Maywood, as well as the Laguna FC.
Montiel, 29, is single and lives in Los Angeles.
