FALCONS MAKE THE MOST OF SITE CHANGE

In a last-minute decision, the Cerritos College women's track and field team felt that the rainstorm that was about to hit Northern California was going to force them to withdraw from the American River Invitational in Sacramento on Saturday. As a replacement, the Falcons decided to enter the Titan Twilight Open at Cal State Fullerton a day earlier in order to make sure the athletes had a chance to compete. The end result was that several athletes did well in various events. The team will split their squad this weekend, with a portion of the team travelling to Palo Alto to compete in the Stanford Invitational, with the remainder to compete in the Tiny Lister Invitational at Cal State Los Angeles.

As usual, the Falcons loaded up on throwers in the field events, with several finishing near the top. In the shot put, freshman Tiffany Gray (El Dorado HS) took fourth place with a distance of 11.96 meters, with freshmen Tuki Sauvao (Artesia HS) and Larrisha Fields (Lakewood HS) taking sixth (11.48 meters) and seventh (11.07 meters), respectively. Fields also performed well in the discus, as her toss of 39.27 was good for second place, with Sauvao in a close third with a distance of 38.97 meters. Additionally, freshman Angel Sifuentes (Central Union HS) turned in a second place performance in the javelin with a throw that travelled 36.64 meters, while Sauvao added a throw of 35.22 meters, which earned her a fourth place finish.

In the jumps, freshman Kristy Hardiman (Carson HS) finished in second place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.65 meters, while her distance of 4.98 meters earned her a fourth place in the long jump. Freshman Mariah Harris (Leuzinger HS) posted a personal best high jump of 1.55 meters, which is the seventh best height clearance in school history.

In the sprints, sophomore Vernasha Poole (Cheyenne, NV HS) came in fifth place with a time of 25.72, with freshman Khadijah Hall (Gahr HS) in a close seventh place in 26.07, while sophomore Blair Allen (Lynwood HS) came in sixth place in the 400 meters in a time of 59.45. Sophomore hurdler Lily Trinh (Fountain Valley HS) posted a time of 1:05.90 to come in third place in the 400-meter IH, while the 400-meter relay team of Hall, Poole, Allen and freshman Ariana Wright (Westminster HS) turned in a time of 48.26 and was edged by Azusa Pacific University for first place.
