At the South Coast Conference Championships on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won nine events, including both relays and all four throwing events. The Falcons finished the championships in second place with 238.5 team points and will now send those who qualified to the Southern California Prelims, which will take place next Saturday at Saddleback College.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the foursome of Leeann Hong (Westminster HS), Angel Corral (El Rancho HS), Simone Terry (Carson HS/Long Beach City College) and De'Anjanae Reed turned in a time of 47.88 to win the conference championship. Corral was joined by Jewel Scott (Warren HS), Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) and Deona Standifer (Mayfair HS) to easily win the 4x400-meter relay when they turned in a time of 4:00.33, which is the fifth best time in the state this year.

Turning in an upset in the 400 meters, Standifer pulled ahead of Pasadena City's Deniya Fields on the last turn and recorded a championship time of 56.69, which moved her into a tie for sixth in the state for the fastest time. Fields owns the third best time in the state.

The throwing trio of Mackenzie Monson (South Torrance HS), Tupouahau Tauaika (Orange Lutheran HS/UC Davis) and Emily Ortiz (Tustin HS) each won an event and combined to record 68 of the team's points in the SCC Championships. Monson won the hammer (52.49 meters), while she also placed second in the shot put and discus, while Tauaika was the champion of the shot put (12.88 meters) with a fourth place in the hammer and a fifth place in the discus. As for Ortiz, she was the champion of the discus (40.59 meters) and added a second place in the hammer and fourth place in the discus.

The Falcons other throwing champion was Kyra Miedecke (Ontario Christian HS/Mt. San Antonio College) in the javelin, and holds the state's best distance at 42.92.

Also winning conference championships for Cerritos were Kailah Usi (Cerritos HS) in the 100-meter HH in a time of 15.59, while Camrynn Williams turned in a distance of 5.40 meters to win the long jump. She also placed third in the triple jump and seventh place in the high jump.
