Juanita Webster, who won four events at the CCCAA State Championships in May, competed in the USATF Outdoor Championships in Sacramento over the weekend. Taking part in the heptathlon, in which she won consecutive state championships, Webster (who now goes as Webster-Freeman), compiled 5376 points and finished in 14th place out of 15 entries. She had 5424 last month when she won the CCCAA State Championship.
Webster-Freeman competed in the senior portion of the meet and went up against four-year college athletes and those who are sponsored. She will be competing for UNLV next season.
As she told the Press Enterprise, "I was like, 'Let's do it,' so I can have competition" she said of the USATF Championships. "I never had competition in the heptathlon. This is a really good opportunity for me to compete with girls that are the same or better than me so that I can get my (scores) on a better level."
Her best event over the two-day heptathlon, which took place at Sacramento State University, Webster-Freeman placed fifth in the high jump when she cleared 1.77 meters, which is a personal record. She finished her Cerritos career second on the all-time list at 1.75 meters. Webster-Freeman set another personal record in the 800 meters, when she was clocked in 2:22.69, which was good for 12th place in the event. All other event results placed her in double-digits, while posting better marks at the CCCAA State Championships.
