Pending official Board approval, the Cerritos College volleyball programs will be welcoming in Ashleigh Atsaros as their new head coach. Kari Hemmerling, who spent the last nine seasons coaching the indoor team, and two years as the beach coach, accepted the position of Director of Volleyball at Irvine Valley College. During the 2024-25 seasons, Hemmerling led the Falcons to the state tournament in both indoor and beach volleyball.

Astaros comes to Cerritos after spending the last four years as the Associate Head Coach for the indoor team and head beach coach at Riverside City College. She helped lead the program from seventh place in the Orange Empire Conference to fifth place and then third place in 2024. The indoor team went 17-10 and qualified for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, where they were defeated by San Bernardino Valley College in the first round. Cerritos then swept the Wolverines in the next round to advance to the state tournament.

"I do know that Cerritos has a history of success and state titles in volleyball," stated Atsaros. "Kari did an incredible job of putting this volleyball program back on the map. I live in Long Beach so when this position became available I was extremely eager to apply."

A product of community college, Atsaros played volleyball at Golden West College (2016-17) and was a 2nd Team All-Orange Empire Conference selection in both indoor and beach volleyball. She led the team in kills (219), while hitting an amazing .408, while her 67 blocks were second on the team. She recorded 12 kills (with no errors) in a sweep over the Falcons in 2017.

Atsaros then transferred to Cal State Fullerton and played two seasons of indoor volleyball, while her two beach seasons were played at Ottawa University Arizona, where she won an NCAA National Championship.

"My immediate goals for the season (with Cerritos) is to establish a good culture and atmosphere right off the bat," added Atsaros. "I want to create a powerful program full of successful student-athletes that leave here with a ton of knowledge so that they can be successful at the 4-year level. There is a ton of talent here in the area and I plan on recruiting hard to keep this program successful."
