Cerritos College battled through a competitive weekend at the 3C2A Baseball Regionals hosted by College of the Desert, earning a decisive win before ultimately falling in two contests to Saddleback College to close out its postseason run.
The Falcons opened regional play against Saddleback, dropping a 7-2 decision despite staying within striking distance through the early innings. Cerritos evened the score in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Luke Crowder, but Saddleback broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues.
Tyler Peshke led the offense with an RBI double, while Jose Perez and Andrew Perez each collected two hits. Cerritos totaled seven hits in the contest but was unable to generate enough offense late to counter Saddleback's surge.
Facing elimination, the Falcons responded in a big way in game two against host College of the Desert, erupting for a 14-2 victory behind a balanced offensive attack and a complete-game effort on the mound from Nolan Patterson.
Cerritos set the tone early, scoring three runs in the first inning and continuing to apply pressure throughout the game. The Falcons finished with 15 hits and drew seven walks, producing runs in six different innings.
Jose Perez led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring three runs and driving in another, while Peshke added three hits and an RBI. Mateo Heredia contributed two doubles and two RBI, and CJ Berthon also added a pair of hits and a run driven in. Patterson was steady on the mound, going the distance while allowing just two runs on nine hits to secure the win and force a decisive third game.
In the winner take all finale against Saddleback, Cerritos was unable to convert offensive opportunities, falling 4-0 to end its season. Despite collecting eight hits and drawing eight walks, the Falcons stranded 13 runners and could not break through.
Peshke paced the offense with a 4-for-5 performance, while Brody Cuellar added two hits. However, Saddleback pitching held Cerritos scoreless and delivered key outs in high-leverage situations.
On the mound, Logan Hunt kept the Falcons within reach, allowing two runs over 6.1 innings before Saddleback added insurance runs late to secure the victory.
