Jumping out quickly in their non-conference game at Los Angeles City College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's basketball team cruised to an 81-52 win. The victory was the third in a row for the Falcons (3-1), who will host Cypress College next Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in their home opener.

Although they scored the first six points in the game, Cerritos then had to withstand an early run from the Cubs, who went on a 13-2 run for a five-point lead. After freshman Elijah Gelin (Winward HS) knocked down a three-pointer with 6:53 left in the half, the Falcons regained the lead at 15-14. But it was a 24-4 run to end the first half that started the big win.

Gelin drained another three-pointer during that run, while sophomore guard David Mack (St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy HS/Northern Illinois University) knocked down a pair of treys. In the final two minutes, the duo scored 13 points.

The second half opened with sophomore Dorian Tate (St. Paul HS/Rio Hondo College) converting two free throws, while he added layups on the team's next two possessions for a 20-point lead. The large advantage allowed the staff to utilize the bench, with six of the seven reserves scoring in the final 20 minutes.

Tate, who made good on 7-of-10 field goals, scored a season-high 22 points to go along with six rebounds, with Gelin contributing 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals off the bench. As for Mack, he accounted for 12 points, five assists and four steals, with freshman Isaac Sowell (Dominguez HS) pulling down 11 rebounds in the win.
