Hosting Santa Ana College in the SCWA Southwest Conference opener, the Cerritos College wrestling team finished off the Dons in less than an hour, as they posted a 48-5 win. The Falcons will travel to Rio Hondo College next Wednesday for another 7:00 p.m. conference dual match.

On the night, Cerritos received three wins by forfeit, as well as a win by disqualification. In that 197-pound match, sophomore Ben Setum (Pacifica HS) was leading Hayden Kapp, 7-0, and when Kapp was hit with his fifth stalling call in the match, it was ruled a disqualification win for Setum.

Along with those four victories, the Falcons three pins, starting with 133-pound freshman Elijah Flores (Santa Fe HS), who finished off Aaron Lopez in the first period in 2:17. Flores got on the board with a three-point takedown before earning the win. Freshman Michael Caico (Servite HS) finished off Trevor Wagstaff with just three seconds remaining in the first period of their 149-pound match. Taken down twice early in the match, he was able to escape both times and after a pair of takedowns of his own, Caico, who was leading, 9-8, pinned Wagstaff right before the end of period horn.

Early in the second period, freshman Nicholas Pham (Westminster HS), who was trailing, 6-0 after the first period, got Marquez on his back and came away with a win. In the first period, Marquez recorded a four-point near-fall, but was also given a stalling warning. Pham, who started the second period on top, quickly got Marquez on his back and finished him off just seconds into the period.

Others who won on the night were 125-pound freshman Jesse Hernandez (Santa Fe HS), who posted a 10-3 win, while 174-pound freshman Dylan Trevino (Calvary Chapel HS) broke a 3-3 tie with an escape in the third period and held on for a 4-3 victory.
