In their final opportunity to compete before the Southern California Championships, the Cerritos College wrestling team sent 16 entries to the East Los Angeles Brawl on Saturday. The Falcons, who came in second place with 62 points, had two finish in second place, while three others placed third and four recorded a fourth place finish. The team will return to East LA College on December 7 for the SoCal Regional Championships.

On both occasions that a Cerritos wrestler advanced to the championship match, they fell to a wrestler from Palomar College, who won the overall championship. At 125 pounds, Anthony Mason pinned two of his first three opponents, including Devan Gutierrez of Bakersfield College in the semifinals in 2:52. Taking on the Comets Caden Hanover in the finals, Mason was pinned early in the third period at 5:33. Teammate Isaiah Cruz (Mayfair HS), who also advanced to the semifinals, settled for third place, which included a 4-1 sudden victory decision over Gutierrez in the last match.

Evan Granados (Savanna HS), competing at 141 pounds, escaped his opening match with an 11-10 win before a pin in his next match advanced him to the semifinals. After dispatching Damien Rodriguez of Cuesta College, 8-6, Granados saw his bid for the title come to an end with a 21-5 technical fall setback at the hands of Diego Paraza of Palomar.

The Falcons had two placers at 165 pounds, with Dylan Trevino (Calvary Chapel HS) earning third place, while teammate Donovan Chavez (Downey HS) settled for fourth place after a 9-6 loss to Trevino in the third place match. Trevino did advance to the semifinals, but was defeated, 16-0 by DJ Weimer of Palomar. He reached the third place match when his next opponent had to forfeit out due to an injury.

It was the same at 184 pounds, with a pair of Cerritos wrestlers scheduled to face each other in the third place match. Both Ben Setum (Pacifica HS) and Farzad Hashimi (El Dorado HS) reached the semifinals, but both absorbed losses to wrestlers from Palomar. Setum pinned  Benjamin Green of Cuesta in 1:20 to reach the third place match, with Hashimi pinning Matthew Flores in 3:46. However, Hashimi suffered an injury in the match and had to default out of his schedule match with Setum.

At 133 pounds, Roberto Ramirez (Paramount HS) finished in fourth place, as did Nicholas Pham (Westminster HS) at 157 pounds.
