Playing with just five players, the Cerritos College women's tennis team knew they would have to forfeit one singles and one doubles match in their non-conference contest against Irvine Valley College. The two points they surrendered turned out to be the difference in a 5-4 loss to the Lasers (4-9), as the Falcons dropped to 4-12 on the year. The team will now travel to Rio Hondo College on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in their final match before the enter the South Coast Conference Tournament, where the team will serve as host.

Cerritos won three of the five singles matches that were played, while they split the two doubles contests. At the top of the singles ladder, freshman Mandi Jenkins (Connections Academy HS) started things off with a 6-3, 6-2, with freshman Nancy Audetat (Norwalk HS) easily winning her #4 match, 6-3, 6-0. In the #3 position, sophomore Kim Diaz (Norwalk HS) came back in the tie-breaker against Alyssa Pekarcik for a 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 victory. The Falcons could have gone into doubles action with a commanding lead, but sophomore Hui You Sohn (Cerritos HS) dropped the next two sets, 3-6, 4-10 after winning the first set, 6-0 against Alyssa Harper.

In doubles play, Sohn and Diaz recorded an 8-5 win over Corlis Mejia and Pekarcik, while Jenkins and Audetat suffered an 8-6 setback, which decided the team winner.
