TWO VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS SIGN LETTERS OF INTENT

A pair of Cerritos College volleyball players have signed letters of intent to play at La Sierra University, an NAIA school in Riverside that qualified for the National Championship tournament last season. Setter/outside hitter Lupe Garcia (Foshay Learning Center HS) and outside hitter Johanna Tope (Bellflower HS) will join a Golden Eagles team that posted a 23-4 record last season, placed second in the Aii Conference Tournament and dropped their opening match in the NAIA National Tournament. After three wins in the Aii Tournament, La Sierra dropped a four-set match to Cal State San Marcos, before their loss to Vanguard University in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament ended their season.

As a sophomore, Garcia was named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference as an outside hitter after spending her freshman season as the team's setter. She led the Falcons with 189 kills and 39 service aces, while she was second on the team with 170 digs and third with 116 assists. As for Tope, she spent last season as the team's manager after playing two seasons for the Falcons. In her sophomore year (2010), she recorded 51 kills with 24 digs and 14 assists in a reserve role.
