CERRITOS TAKES NINTH PLACE AT VANGUARD INVITATIONAL

Just as they had done in two other meets, the Cerritos College women's cross country team competed against mainly four-year colleges. On Saturday at the Vanguard Invitational, the Falcons went up against 13 other colleges, with 12 of them being four-year schools. The team took ninth place overall with 265 team points, with Azusa Pacific University winning the invitational with 36 team points. Only Orange Coast College, who came in fifth place, was the other community college that competed. The team will now run in the Santa Barbara Invitational on Friday.

Leading the Falcons in the 5K run was freshman Natalie Fyke (Esperanza HS), who ran the course in 20:05, which was good for 44th place out of the 140 competitors. Not far behind were sophomore Lauren Thompson (Mayfair HS), who came in 52nd place in a time of 20:24, while sophomore Angela Gonzales (Lakewood HS) was 59th overall in a time of 20:37. Completing the team scoring were freshman Gabriella Villalobos (El Rancho HS), who came in 76th place in 21:08 and freshman Alexis Perez (Cantwell HS) with her 81st place finish in 21:15.

Rounding out the Falcon squad were Jessica Yuen (Mark Keppel HS; 94th place; 21:44), Jessica Guzman (California HS; 108th place; 22:37), Roxana Lopez (111th place; 22:51), Sushama Sharma (Gahr HS; 115th place; 23:24) and Brittany Guzman (117th place; 23:42).
