In our ongoing commitment to recognize the top performances from Cerritos College athletes, this week's Raising Canes Player of the Week recipients are a quartet of women's wrestlers that helped lead the Falcons to the 3C2A State Championship. On Saturday at East Los Angeles College, the foursome of Vida Beckel (Cypress HS), Kinsey Konrad (Redondo Union HS), Raven Ross (Long Beach Poly HS) and Eniekeye Osede (Cypress HS) each won championships in their individual weight classifications, as Cerritos won their third consecutive team state championship. The Falcons pulled away from second place Mt. San Antonio College when the four Cerritos wrestlers won championships in the final four weights.

Vida Beckel - An All-American her freshman season, Beckel squared off against Alejandra Ochoa of San Joaquin Delta College in the championship match. After receiving a bye in the first round, Beckel posted an 11-0 technical fall win over Kassandra Villarreal of Mt. San Antonio College before pinning Annette Beltran of Skyline College in 1:56 to reach the semifinals. In that match, Beckel needed just 49 seconds to pin Jaime Micallef of Skyline, which sent her to the championships. Beckel, who did not surrender a point throughout the day, pinned Ochoa in 42 seconds to cap off her Falcon career and completed the season with a 20-6 record.

Kinsey Konrad - Another Falcon wrestler ranked #1 in her weight class, 180-pound Konrad opened the day by pinning Carmen Garcia of Fresno City College in 20 seconds. Next up was Mt. San Antonio's Andrea Vidrio Majana, who was pinned by Konrad in 1:06 after she opened a quick 6-0 lead. The semifinals saw Konrad defeat Shanaria Killebrew of Bakersfield College, 4-1 and trailed, 1-0 after the first period. She picked up a pair of passive points and then a two-point takedown to finish off the match. The championship match brought a familiar face, as Konrad took on teammate Analize Lopez. She jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead before pinning Lopez in 1:33 and concluded the season with a 19-3 record.

Raven Ross - Competing at 207 pounds, Ross won three straight matches to earn the championship. She defeated Paula Govina of Santa Ana College, 9-6 in her opening match, which started as a 7-1 lead for Ross after the first period. Govina almost pulled off the upset, as she scored a four-point near-fall before Ross picked up a pair of one-point decisions to maintain her lead. The semifinal match was a little bit easier, as she pinned Honey Orduno of Palomar College in 55 seconds to advance to the finals. In that match, Ross defeated Isabel Zepeda of San Joaquin Delta College, 4-2. Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Ross scored a four-point near-fall just nine second into the second period and was able to hold on for the win. Ross completed the season with a 20-3 record.

Eniekeye Osede - In the newest weight class of 235 pounds, Osede earned a bye in the first round and then won a pair of matches to secure the first state championship in this weight. She pinned Behnaz Agahzade of East Los Angeles in 3:20, which saw the match tied, 5-5 after the first period. Osede made a quick move at the start of the second period and pinned Agahzade in 12 seconds. The final match of the night had Osede shut out Itzia Rivera of Santa Ana College, 5-0 in the championships. Osede scored all of her points in the first period, which included a near-fall 1:22 into the match. The weight class was not offered in every match and tournament this season, but Osede posted a 6-2 record on the year.
