Back on the sand for the first time this season, the Cerritos College beach volleyball team split their two matches in Santa Monica on Wednesday. The Falcons posted a 4-1 win over Life Pacific University, but suffered a 5-0 setback at the hands of the host Corsairs. On Friday, the team will travel to Rosie's Beach in Long Beach to take on Ventura College and Golden West College.

In the win over the Warriors, an NAIA college from San Dimas, the top three pairings registered wins, as did the #5 pair. At the top of the ladder, sophomores Abby Gutierrez (Downey HS) and Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) split the first two sets, 21-13, 14-21, but responded with a 15-11 score in the deciding set. The next two pairs recorded sweeps, with freshman Josie Navarro (Sierra Vista HS) and sophomore Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) posing a 22-20 and 21-12 victory, while the tandem of sophomore Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS) and freshman Rosie Cazares-Gonzalez (El Rancho HS) came away with a 21-15, 21-7 victory.

The Falcons also picked up a 21-12, 21-9 win in the #5 spot from sophomore Juliette Casillas (La Serna HS) and freshman Herlinda Casanova (St. Joseph HS).

Against Santa Monica, two of the matches were decided by a third set, as Rodriguez and Cazarez-Gonzalez won the first set, 21-15, but dropped the next two sets, 14-21, 14-16. In the #5 position, Casillas and Casanova dropped the first set, 12-21, but rebounded for a 21-15 win in the second set. The deciding set was a 12-15 loss for the Falcons.
