Consistently one of the top field event colleges in the state for nearly 20 years, the Cerritos College women's track and field team won five of the six events at the Cerritos Open on Saturday. The team will compete in the Rossi Relays at Claremont College next Saturday.

The highlight of the day was the performance of Mackenzie Monson (South Torrance HS) in the hammer, as she recorded a throw of 50.09 meters, which is the fourth best in school history. She's also the first Falcon to eclipse the 50-meter marck since Amber Hart in 2018. Monson was a two-time winner, with her distance of 38.37 defeating the field in the discus. Sophomore Emily Ortiz (Tustin HS) earned a pair of second place finishes in both the hammer (42.77 meters) and discus (37.32 meters).

Also posting a win in a throwing event was freshman Kyra Miedecke, who locked in a distance of 39.22 meters in the javelin, while sophomore Tupouahau Tauaika (Orange Lutheran HS/UC Davis) was the lone Falcon entry in the shot put and came in first place with a throw of 12.21 meters. She also took fourth in the discus and sixth in the hammer. Cerritos took the top two places in the long jump, with freshman Leeann Hong (Westminster HS) jumping 5.31 meters, with Simore Terry in second place at 5.11 meters.

Sprinters Hong (8.02) and Simone Terry (Carson HS/Long Beach City College), who was clocked in 8.10 posted third and fourth place finishes in the 60 meters, while Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) finished second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:28.57. Sophomore Kailah Usi won the 60-meter HH in a time of 9.90, with her clocking of 1:08.44 earning her a second place in the 400-meter IH.

Although there were only two teams running the 4x100-meter relay, it provided plenty of excitement. The Falcons placed second by .01 against Orange Coast College, as De'Anjane Reed, Camrynn Williams, Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) and Hong finished in a time of 49.36 to the time of 49.35 by the Pirates. Soto-Castro also competed in the javelin for the first time in her career and turned in a second place throw of 29.32 meters.
