On August 2-3, Cerritos College sophomore thrower Emily Ortiz (Tustin HS) will represent Guatemala in the discus and hammer at the Senior Central American Championships in Managua. Ortiz, who previously competed in the Central American U20 Championships, placed third in both of the same events in which she will compete this weekend. She will be one of seven entries in both of the events.

With the Falcons this past season, Ortiz came in third place in the hammer (43.57 meters) at the 3C2A State Championships, while her distance of 39.33 meters in the discus put her in 10th place. Earlier in the season, Ortiz recorded a throw of 43.75 meters in the hammer, which ended up being the fifth best in the state, while her best distance in the discus (47.19 meters) came at the Southern California Championships, which netted her a third place result.

At the South Coast Conference Championships, Ortiz won the title in the discus, and added a second place in the hammer and a fourth place finish in the shot put.
