Even though there were only three full teams competing at the Oxnard Invitational on Friday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team had two top 10 finishers, while the team placed second on the day. The Falcons finished the day with 45 team points and only trailed South Coast Conference opponent Mt. San Antonio College, who had 16 team points. After a week off, the team will run in the Golden West Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach on September 19.
Competing in the 5000 meter course, the top Cerritos runners both placed in the top 10, as Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) finished in eighth place overall with a time of 19:52.2. She was joined by Monserrat Malo (Warren HS), whose time of 20:01.4 was 10th out of 42 total runners. Not far behind was Esther Gonzalez (Warren HS), who crossed the finish line in 20:16.0, which placed her 12th in the race, with Viviana Martinez (Downey HS) turning in a 15th place time of 21:04.6. The fifth runner to help compile the team score, Samantha Thompson (Downey HS) posted an 18th place time of 21:20.0.
Also running for the Falcons were Jessica Jordan (Narbonne HS), who took 25th place in a time of 22:37.3, while teammate Maricela Herrera (Valencia HS) was right behind her in 26th place with a posting of 22:41.4.
