On Friday, the Cerritos College softball team posted a 9-5 win over host Compton College which was the third South Coast Conference victory in a row. The team is right back at it on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Mission College in a rescheduled game from earlier this season.

Cerritos (13-4, 7-2) scored the first eight runs of the game and were on the verge of their third mercy win until the Lady Tartars scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the second inning, sophomore catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) got things started with a triple and scored on a base hit from freshman outfielder Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS). A pair of walks loaded the bases before a fielder's choice cut down the lead runner at the plate before freshman second baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS) singled home a pair of runs.

Consecutive walks to sophomore designated player Briana Zarate (Legacy HS/Compton College), Najera and Amaya led off the top of the third inning. After another fielder's choice resulted in a force out at the plate, freshman shortstop Savannah Gonzalez (Whittier HS) drove in a run with a ground out before freshman outfielder Amarie Encarnacion (Norwalk HS) laced a two-out singled that scored two more runs.

A pair of hit batters, an error and three hits allowed Compton to score five times and extend the game. However, after that inning, the Lady Tartars had just a pair of singles the remainder of the game.

Najera finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk and scored three times, while sophomore outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. As a team, the Falcons drew seven walks on the day, with four of them coming home to score.
