Advancing to the Southern California Super Regional Playoffs for the fourth season in a row, the Cerritos College softball team saw their playoff run end on Saturday with an 8-0 loss to host Palomar College. The Falcons (33-12), were the #6-seeded team for the playoffs, while the Comets (40-3) were seeded #3.

Just like the first game in their best-of-3 series, Cerritos kept Palomar in check through the first four innings. Limited to just one run on three hits by freshman pitcher Tatyana Cortez (La Serna HS), the Comets scored in each of the final three innings to account for the remainder of their runs. Cortez (22-12) struggled with her accuracy, a rarity for her, as she walked eight batters, a season-high. Five of those free passes came around to score.

Offensively, Cerritos put a pair of runners on base in the third inning when freshman outfielder Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS) reached on an error, while freshman third baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS) drew a two-out walk. Neither would come around to score, but it wasn't the last scoring opportunity on the day. In the fourth inning, sophomore shortstop Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS) and freshman outfielder Savannah Gonzalez (Whittier HS) each singled with two outs, but the rally would end there.

Two more runners were left on base in the fifth inning after freshman second baseman Amarie Encarnacion (Norwalk HS) drew a walk and Cortez singled with one out. But their would also be stranded, as the Falcons left eight runners on base.

Gonzalez and Marley Cortez finished with a pair of hits, while Taytana Cortez came on in a hitting role and clubbed a double.
