W. Water Polo: Defense and balanced scoring leads Falcons to win

In their South Coast Conference match against Chaffey College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team posted a 16-3 win, which also included 17 steals. The Falcons (5-3, 2-0) will compete in the Golden West Mini-Tournament on Friday and will play twice.

Cerritos limited the Panthers to just single goals in the second through fourth periods, while they broke open a 2-0 game after the first period into a 7-1 advantage at halftime.

Freshman Luna Huitron (Warren HS) scored three of the team's five goals in the second period, while freshman Monserrat Rodriguez (Western HS) had a pair of goals through the first half. Posting a trio of assists in the first half was freshman Jasmine Escorcia (Western HS) and finished the day with four helpers.

Sophomore Valeria Barboza (Paramount HS) led the defensive effort with five steals, with freshman Isabel Guillen (Whittier HS) recorded three steals.

The offensive output was paced by Rodriguez and her four goals, with Huitron adding three goals. In goal, freshman Jayden Starr-Smith (Buena Park HS) turned away five shots to earn the win.
