Goals came fast and furious for the Cerritos College women's water polo match at Rio Hondo College on Wednesday. The Falcons improved to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in South Coast Conference play with their 26-3 win, which was their largest goal output of the season. The team will host the Cerritos Mini Tournament on Friday and take on Southwestern College (9:40 a.m.) and Ventura College (2:20 p.m.) on Friday.

Before the Roadrunners (0-10, 0-3) knew what happened, the Falcons led 5-0, which turned into a 16-1 advantage by intermission. Cerritos also scored a season high 10 goals in the second period. The second period saw Isabella Ochoa (California HS) score three of the first four goals in the stanza, with the trio of Camila Oliveira (Cerritos HS), Ceci Ortiz-Miranda (El Rancho HS) and Isabel Guillen (Whittier HS) all score twice during the eight-minute period.

Freshman goalkeeper Jayden Starr-Smith (Buena Park HS) even got in on the action and assisted on a career-high four goals, while she also made 10 saves in the net. 

There were 13 different goal scorers for Cerritos, who were led by Ortiz-Miranda with her four goals on five shots. Scoring three times for the Falcons were Guillen, Ochoa and sophomore Valeria Barboza (Paramount HS), who scored all of her goals in the third period. Twelve players also assisted on at least one goal.
