The Falcons used a pivotal fifth inning and strong pitching down the stretch to defeat El Camino, 7-4, on Friday afternoon to secure the series victory.
Trailing early, Cerritos rallied behind timely hitting and took advantage of defensive miscues to secure the conference victory.
Cerritos began to chip away in the third when Brody Cuellar delivered an RBI single to score Tyler Peshke. The Falcons then pulled even in the fifth as Luke Crowder crossed the plate on a fielder's choice by Mateo Heredia. Moments later, CJ Berthon provided the biggest swing of the day, launching a two-run home run to left field to give Cerritos a 4-2 advantage.
The Falcons added to their lead in the sixth inning, capitalizing on an El Camino error that allowed Hudson Comer to score. Peshke followed with an RBI fielder's choice to extend the lead to 6-2.
El Camino made things interesting in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 6-4 on a two-run single by Slater Nunez. However, Cerritos answered in the eighth when Heredia lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Crowder for an insurance run.
Crowder led the offense, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Peshke collected three hits and drove in a run. Berthon finished with two RBI on his home run, and Heredia added a pair of RBI.
On the mound, Logan Hunt earned the win, improving to 6-4 after allowing just one earned run over 6.2 innings. Jake Fowler picked up his second save of the season, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings to close out the game.
