Timely Hitting Lifts Cerritos Past Sacramento City in 5–4 Thriller

Cerritos College held off a late push from Sacramento City College to secure a 5-4 victory on Friday afternoon at Kincaid Field.

The Falcons used timely hitting and patience at the plate to edge the Panthers, completing back-to-back wins to sweep the series. Cerritos struck first in the third inning when Luke Crowder delivered an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Hudson Comer for a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning as Tyler Peshke tied the game with an RBI double to right center, plating Comer once again. Cerritos regained the lead in the sixth inning with a pair of runs. Peshke lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Adam Smith before Brody Cuellar reached on an error that allowed another run to score, giving the Falcons a 4-2 edge.

An insurance run proved crucial in the seventh inning when Crowder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Smith and extending the lead to 5-2.

On the mound, Logan Hunt turned in a strong outing to earn the win, improving to 7-4 on the season. He tossed 7.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) while scattering seven hits and striking out three. Nicholas Moreno recorded a key out in the eighth inning before Jake Fowler closed the game to earn his third save of the season.

Offensively, Crowder led the way with three hits and two RBI, while Peshke added two RBI. Comer scored three of the Falcons' five runs, and Smith crossed the plate twice as Cerritos capitalized on eight walks and key situational at-bats.
