Falcons post 5-2 win over LA Pierce

For the second straight game, the Cerritos College men's soccer team scored at least five goals in a game. The Falcons (4-1-0) posted a 5-2 non-conference win at Los Angeles Pierce College last night and currently rank tied for second in the state with 18 goals scored on the season. They will look to build on that total on Friday when they travel to Cuyamaca College (2-0-1) for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.

In the win over the Brahmas (0-3-0), the Falcons scored four of their goals in the first half and needed just a little over two minutes to get things going. Sophomores Gustavo Arias (Fairmont Prep HS) and Christian Ramirez (Bishop Mora Salesian HS) teamed up to score the first and last Cerritos goals, as the two continue to lead the team in scoring. They have both scored four times and combined for five assists to help the team with their fast start.

Although LA Pierce was able to tie the game a few minutes after the opening goal, but Cerritos had a quick response when Julio Portillo (Central City Value HS/East Los Angeles College) finished off a play by scoring his third goal of the season in the ninth minute to take the lead for good. For good measure, Alejandro Oropeza (Banning HS/Santa Ana College) picked up his second goal of the year and Bruce Sanchez (Long Beach Jordan HS) posted his first, as the Falcons added to the offensive output before haltime.

In the 72nd minute, Arias provided the helper on the Ramirez goal to close out the scoring for Cerritos. The Brahmas added a goal in the 82nd minute to finish off the final score.

Goalkeeper Eduardo Enriquez (Linda Esperanza Marquez HS) picked up his second win of the season, as he turned away a pair of shots. As for the Falcons, they took 20 shots on the night, with 11 of them on goal.
