Hosting Glendale College on Friday, the Cerritos College men's soccer team recorded a 5-0 win, which was their first shutout of the season. The Falcons (7-3-0), ranked #20 in the state, will travel on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. to take on rival Mt. San Antonio College in a South Coast Conference crossover game.

Neither team had much of an advantage for the first 30 minutes of the game until the Falcons got on the board in the 34th minute. Freshman Henderson Figueroa (Narbonne HS), who just entered the game, was able to head a crossing pass into the Vaqueros net on a pass from freshman William Rodriguez (San Leandro HS/Cuyamaca College) to open the scoring. Figueroa was in the game for about 20 seconds before scoring what would turn out to be the winning goal.

After a halftime talk, Cerritos came out and scored in a little over a minute into the second half to extend their lead to 2-0. Sophomore Christian Ramirez (Bishop Mora Salesian HS) got off the first shot, which hit the post on a long drive, with the rebound landing in front of sophomore Alejandro Oropeza (Banning HS/Santa Ana College), who chipped in the rebound for his third goal of the season.

The final three goals came in an eight-minute span, with the third coming on a direct kick from freshman Matthew Pulido (Downey HS/Cal State Dominguez Hills). He fired a low, rolling shot that seemed to fool Glendale goalkeeper Arvn Navasartian, as the ball went past him and into the net. Sophomore Allan Gonzalez (Lakewood HS) made it a 4-0 game when his hard line drive hit under the crossbar and into the net, while freshman Nathan Pineda (Santa Fe HS) closed out the scoring in the 79th minute.

Freshman Anthony Gomez (Los Alamitos HS) played the first 84 minutes and made four saves to maintain the shutout, while freshman Jorge Laverde (Redondo Union HS) came on for the final six minutes to secure the clean sheet.
