A pair of goals in the first 35 minutes of the game proved to be enough offense for the Cerritos College men's soccer team, as they recorded a 2-1 win over host East Los Angeles College on Friday. The South Coast Conference win by the Falcons (10-4-0, 3-1-0), coupled with a loss by Long Beach City College puts the two schools in a tie for first place in the South Division. Cerritos will host third place El Camino College at 1:30 p.m. next Tuesday.

In the win over the Huskies (4-6-5, 0-4-0), the Falcons once again came out with extra energy, which resulted in a goal in the third minute of the game. The tandem of Alejandro Oropeza (Banning HS/Santa Ana College) and Christian Ramirez (Bishop Mora Salesian HS) were responsible for bringing the ball deep into East LA territory, where Julio Portillo (Central City Valey HS/East Los Angeles College) finished the play for his sixth goal of the season. Portillo played his freshman season at East LA.

As the half progressed, Cerritos was able to breath through once again, as Oropeza was the recipient of a nice pass from Gustavo Arias (Fairmont Prep HS). Oropeza, who scored his fourth goal of the season, gave the team a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute of the game.

Cerritos would out-shoot the Huskies, 16-5 on the day, with 11 of those shots on goal. Eduardo Enriquez (Linda Esperanza Marquez HS) started the game and earned the win, with Anthony Gomez (Los Alamitos HS) playing the second half.
