Continuing one of their best seasons in the history of Cerritos College men's cross country, the team placed second at the Southern California Championships on Friday. The runner-up result is the best in school history, as the team finished with 98 team points and it appeared the team was leading in the team scoring with a little over a mile remaining in the four-mile course at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. Riverside City College won the overall championship with 79 team points. The team will now compete in the 3C2A State Championships on November 22 at Woodward Park in Fresno. Last season, the team finished in fifth place at the state championships.

Earning 1st Team All-Southern California with his sixth placer result, sophomore Joshua Morales (Warren HS) was in the hunt for a top four placing, but his time of 20:30.60 was three seconds off the fourth place time. What enabled the Falcons to earn that second place result was their grouping, as the next three runners all finished in the top 21 runners on the day out of 184 entries.

The next three runners all completed the course within three seconds of each other and were led by sophomore Axel Rebolledo-Ynostros (California HS) and his 17th place time of 20:50.07, with sophomore Louis Santibanez (Warren HS) on his heels in a 19th place time of 20:52.82. Less than a second later, sophomore Mikel Bautista (Warren HS) crossed the finished line with a clocking of 20:53.32, good for 21st place. Rounding out the team scoring for Cerritos was sophomore Nikolas Dominguez (Downey HS), who checked in with a 35th place time of 21:16.11.

Also competing on the day for the Falcons were Juan Flores (Warren HS), who came in 45th place in a time of 21:27.26, with Jonathan Morales (Downey HS) turning in a time of 21:40.08, which put him in 56th place.
