For the second time in the last three invitationals, the Cerritos College men's cross country team came away with the championship. Back on September 5, they won the championship of the Oxnard Invitational and followed that with a title at the Bakersfield Invitational on Friday. The Falcons will now run in the Manny Bautista Cross Country Invitational next Friday at NTC Park in San Diego. Of the nine teams that competed, Cerritos finished with 24 team points and outdistanced second place Glendale College, who compiled 75 team points.
Running the four-mile course, Cerritos saw the team register five of the top 10 runners on the day. After John Gutierrez of Allan Hancock College won the individual title, the trio of Joshua Morales (Warren HS), Juan Flores (Warren HS) and Louis Santibanez (Warren HS) accounted for the next three finishers. Morales checked in with a time of 20:50.05, while Flores (20:50.05) and Santibanez (20:55.15) battled all the way to the finish line.
Aidan Vigil (La Serna HS) was the fourth Falcon to complete the course, as he recorded the eighth best time of the day in 21:17.27, with Mikel Bautista (Warren HS) holding off a pair of runners to secure the 10th place finish in 21:23.07.
The Falcons also received very strong performances from another trio of runners who all finished in the top 20. Turning in a 14th place finish in a time of 21:30.22 was Nikolas Dominguez (Downey HS), with Alexander Reyes (Downey HS) recording a time of 21:42.69, which put him in 17th place.
