For the second season in a row, the Cerritos College men's cross country team found themselves on the podium in their final race of the season. Running in the 3C2A State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday morning, the Falcons finished in fifth place for the second year in a row. Cerritos concluded the race with 176 team points and were edged out of fourth place by South Coast Conference opponent Los Angeles Harbor College, who had 174 team points. Cuyamaca College won the team championship with 90 team points.
Running on the four-mile course, Cerritos saw Joshua Morales (Warren HS) hold off Cuyamaca's Dominic Rizzo to finished in 10th place out of 194 total runners. The clocking of Morales (20:31.1) was a half second ahead of Rizzo. Just 10 finishers later, teammate Louis Santibanez (Warren HS) posted a 20th place time of 20:46.0, which was a half second ahead of his closest competition. With so many runners on the course at the same time, blocks of competitors were reaching the finish line at the same time.
For Axel Rebolledo-Ynostros (California HS), he entered the final 0.7 of a mile in 36th place, but had a pair of runners overtake him on the final stretch. He finished with a 39th place time of 21:03.4, with eight runners all finishing within five seconds of each other. It was the same for the final two scoring runners for the Falcons, while Seahawks runners all improved their places during the same distance. Mikel Bautista (Warren HS) settled for 58th place with a clocking of 21:34.4, with Juan Flores (Warren HS) seeing his time of 21:29.0 put him in 63rd place on the day.
Also running in the state championships for the Falcons were Nikolas Dominguez (Downey HS), who came in 65th place at 21:29.4, with Jonathan Morales (Downey HS) posting a 76th place time of 21:39.2.
