Running at Mt. San Antonio College in the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in second place. The Falcons compiled 38 team points based on the finishes of their top five runners and trailed only the host Mounties, who won the conference title with 24 team points. The team will now run at the Southern California Championships, which will take place next Friday at NTC Park in San Diego.
As a team, Cerritos had two of the top three finishers over the 4-mile course, with Joshua Morales (Warren HS) posting the second fastest time in 21:18.50. He trailed the overall champion, Jonah Botello of Mt. San Antonio by five seconds. Just three seconds behind Morales was Axel Rebolledo-Ynostros (California HS), who turned in a time of 21:21.40 to hold off the fourth place finisher by four seconds. The Mounties were able to secure the team championship when they had the next three runners finish together, while Cerritos saw a dropoff from their third to fourth finisher.
Placing seventh out of the 108 runners was Louis Santibanez (Warren HS), who was just two seconds behind the pair of runners in front of him and recorded a clocking of 21:38.40. Finishing just out of the top 10 was Mikel Bautista (Warren HS), who settled for 12th place with his time of 21:52.40. The final scoring runner for the Falcons was Nikolas Dominguez (Downey HS), who posted a 16th place time of 22:05.70. Although he didn't play a role in the team scoring, Jonathan Morales (Downey HS) was right behind Dominguez and finished with a time of 22:06.40, good for 17th place.
