Locked in a scoreless game heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cerritos College baseball team took advantage of a error, which helped them post an 8-1 win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Saturday. The Falcons (26-8, 13-5) will now begin a three-game series with Rio Hondo College, with the first game on the road at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman outfielder Owen Martin (Narbonne HS) drew a one-out walk off starting pitcher Jake Ramos (2-1), which was followed by an RBI double from freshman first baseman Wyatt Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS). After a passed ball advanced Ormonde to third base, he was thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice by sophomore outfielder Isaiah Rios (St. John Bosco HS). The Falcons had runners at first and third after a base hit by sophomore second baseman Dylan Immel (El Segundo HS).

The next play kept the inning alive for Cerritos when a ground ball off the bat of freshman third baseman Mateo Heredia (El Segundo HS) was fielded and the throw to the plate appeared to have Rios tagged out to end the inning. The initial call at the plate was out, but Huskies catcher Matias Nolasco dropped the ball. After a discussion by the umpires, Rios was ruled to be safe, with sophomore catcher Ryan Reyes (Los Alamitos HS) and freshman shortstop Lucas Scott (Long Beach Poly HS) following with RBI singles to open a 4-0 lead.

East LA did get one of the runs back against sophomore starting pitcher Derek Valdez (Los Alamitos HS), who pitched the first seven innings. He scattered five hits and struck out eight batters to improve his record to 9-2 on the year. He did receive help from his defense, which included Evan Saito (Torrance HS) throwing out John Kully at the plate in the first inning, with Reyes holding onto the ball after the collision.

The Falcons added three more runs in the seventh inning, which started when sophomore outfielder Diego Orozco (Long Beach Wilson HS), Martin and Ormonde all singled to load the bases. East LA relief pitcher Jaedeyn Edwards uncorked a pair of wild pitches, which brought in the first two runs, while Rios drove in the third with a sacrfice fly.

Reyes, making his first start of the season, went 3-for-3 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch, while Ormonde was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. The duo of Orozco and Martin each added a pair of hits on the day.
