NORWALK, Calif. — The Cerritos College softball team was held scoreless in an 8–0 loss to Chaffey on Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers used timely hitting and a complete-game shutout in the circle.
Chaffey broke through in the fourth inning when Nevaeha Tarin doubled down the left-field line to drive in two runs, giving the visitors a 2–0 lead. The Panthers added to their advantage in the fifth, scoring four runs on a run-scoring single by Lauren Chappell followed by a three-run home run from Fernanda Cano to push the margin to 6–0.
Chaffey tacked on two more runs in the seventh, one coming on a passed ball and another on Tarin's second RBI double of the game, to close out the scoring.
Cerritos scattered five hits in the contest but was unable to generate sustained offense. Alyssa Avila went 2-for-3 to lead the Falcons at the plate, while Isabella Najera and Mia Star Miramontes each added a hit.
In the circle, Tatyana Cortez took the loss after allowing three runs over four innings. Miramontes provided solid relief, surrendering just one earned run while striking out two across 2.2 innings.
Bryanna Ortega earned the win for Chaffey, tossing a complete-game shutout and allowing five hits with one walk.
Cerritos will look to bounce back when they travel to Cypress on Tuesday, February 3rd.
