Behind a dominant performance in the circle and a breakout day at the plate from Marley Cortez, Cerritos College rolled to an 8-2 victory over LA Mission in conference softball action.

The Falcons (22-5) totaled 11 hits and capitalized on seven walks, breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning to take full control.

After a scoreless first two frames, Cerritos got on the board in the third when Luna Villa lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Marley Cortez for a 1-0 lead. The Falcons then erupted in the fourth, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple down the right field line by Marley Cortez that plated three runs. Bella Salas followed with an RBI single, and Cerritos later added another run on a defensive miscue to extend the lead to 6-0.

Cerritos continued to add on in the fifth when Marley Cortez struck again with an RBI double to left center, pushing the advantage to 7-0.

LA Mission (9-11) managed to get on the board in the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Rachel Lowry, but the Falcons quickly answered in the bottom half. Alyssa Avila delivered an RBI single up the middle to score Alia Colon and cap the scoring at 8-2.

Marley Cortez led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, and four RBI. Alyssa Avila also had a strong outing, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Bella Salas added two hits and an RBI.

In the circle, Tatyana Cortez improved to 22-5 on the season with a complete-game performance. She allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out 10.
