Falcon softball erupted offensively and backed it with dominant pitching to down Rio Hondo College in a six inning run-rule victory. After a strong opening frame, the Falcons never looked back, pounding out 11 hits and capitalizing on six walks to secure the run-rule victory. Cerritos wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first. With runners on, Luna Villa ripped a double down the left-field line to drive in two runs, scoring Marley Cortez and Alyssa Avila for an early 2-0 lead.
Leading 3-1 entering the sixth, the Falcons exploded for six runs to put the game out of reach. The rally featured clutch RBIs from Villa, Tatyana Cortez, Carissa Amaya, Viki Barron, Isabella Najera, Bella Salas and Dani Flores, who drove in two runs. Marley Cortez crossed the plate three times in the game, while Avila scored twice and reached base three times. Salas led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 performance and a stolen base, and Irma Gonzalez added a hit and a run scored.
Inside the circle, the Falcons were just as sharp. Tatyana Cortez (9-2) picked up the win, striking out three in one inning of work. Mia Star Miramontes was outstanding in relief, tossing five innings of one-hit softball while striking out five and allowing no runs. Cortez and Miramontes combined to allow just two hits while striking out eight.
