Big Innings Power Cerritos Past Moorpark

The Falcons softball team used a pair of explosive innings to roll past Moorpark College, 11-3, on Saturday afternoon.

After falling behind early, Cerritos erupted for five runs in the third inning and added another big frame in the fourth to take control of the game.

Moorpark struck first with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning to grab a 1-0 lead, but Cerritos quickly responded in the third. The Falcons sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run inning highlighted by RBI hits from Carissa Amaya and Isabella Najera, along with a two-run error that helped fuel the rally. Alyssa Avila capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to give Cerritos a 6-1 advantage.

Cerritos continued to build momentum in the fourth inning, adding two more runs behind a bases-loaded walk from Cynthia Hernandez and an RBI groundout from Amarie Encarnacion to extend the lead to 8-1.

Moorpark trimmed the deficit in the fifth with a pair of runs, but the Falcons answered immediately. Luna Villa delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a two-run home run to left field in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to 10-3.

The Falcons added the game ending run in the 6th, after an RBI single from Avila scored Najera to secure the mercy rule victory.

Offensively, Cerritos tallied 10 hits and drew seven walks in a balanced attack. Villa led the way with three RBI, while Avila and Hernandez each drove in two runs. Najera added a multi-hit performance with an RBI, and Amaya chipped in with a run-scoring single.

In the circle, Mia Star Miramontes set the tone early, allowing just one run over 3.1 innings. Tatyana Cortez (12-5) earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing two runs while helping secure the victory.
