Taking on host Compton College on Friday, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 3-0 South Coast Conference South Division win. The victory improves their record to 3-8-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. The team will now travel to East Los Angeles College next Friday for a 4:00 p.m. conference crossover game.

Cerritos opened up a 2-0 first half lead, thanks to a pair of goals from freshman Melissa Martinez (Long Beach Millikan HS), which now ties her for the team lead with three goals on the year. She put the team in front in the 17th minute on a thru pass from sophomore Ariana Rivera (Long Beach Millikan HS). Before the end of the half, Martinez finished a play when sophomore Jenna Santos (St. Joseph HS) moved the ball upfield and found Martinez, who fired a shot into the back of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Paulina Prescott (Downey HS) was the beneficiary of a solid defensive effort, as she made one save in the game to post her second shutout of the season.

The Falcons added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute when sophomore Christina Rodriguez (Buena Park HS) picked up her first goal of the season. Rivera, who generated the team's offense with her passing, was credited with her second assist of the game and third of the season.
