Competing in the Gaucho Relays at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team finished in fifth place with 74 team points. In addition to their point total, the Falcons also saw a new school record set in the 3000 meters. Not included as an event in the 3C2A State Championships, the new record of 8:32.67 was set by Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) and eclispes the previous best recorded time of 8:42.49, which was extablished by Anthony Lozano in 2015.
The team will split their squad next Saturday, with part of the team competing at the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic at Occidental College, while another group will go to the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational.
