Two members of the Cerritos College men's track and field team took part in the USATF U20 Championships at the University of Oregon on June 19-22. Juan Flores (Warren HS) competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Luke Johnson (Paramount HS) competed in the decathlon. Both turned in superb performances, as Flores finished in 11th place with a time of 9:26.44, while Johnson posted an eighth place finish with 5961 total points over the 10 events.

The time turned in by Flores was a personal best and moved him into third place on the college's all-time top five list. He was a mere .20 away from the program's second place time of 9:26.24, which was recorded by Ralph Kolthoff in 1979. It was also eight seconds faster than his previous best time (9:34.17), which he turned in during his third place finish in the 3C2A State Championships a month prior.

As for Johnson, who finished in fourth place at the 3C2A State Championships, he recorded over 700 points in two of the events. He turned in a time of 16.05 in the 110-meter HH, which was good for 727 points, while his time of 11.71 in the 100 meters netted him 709 points. His next highest point-producing event came in the high jump, where his clearance of 1.82 meters was good for 644 points.
