The Falcons won SoCal championships in the 1500 meters and 4x400-meter relay

Led by a quartet of champions, the Cerritos College men's track and field team compiled 83 team points at the Southern California Championships to finish in fourth place. The Falcons will be advancing athletes in nine events at the 3C2A State Championships, which will take place at San Mateo College next weekend.

The team will be represented in both relay races, as the 4x400-meter quartet finished in first place and the 4x100-meter team placed third. The winning time of 3:13.42 was a season best for the foursome of Konnor Handy (St. John Bosco HS), Sebastian Lopez (Downey HS), Elijah Porras and Terrance Williams, as they beat second place Riverside City College by nearly a second. Always one of the most exciting races of every track meet, the 4x100-meter quartet of Xavier Williams (Paramount HS), Lopez, Te'Quan Chatman (Bishop Verot, FL HS) and Ethan Rosborough (Narbonne HS) posted a time of 41.32.

The best 1500 meter runner in the state, sophomore Joshua Melendez (St. John Bosco HS) was able to win the race in spite of being eight seconds off his personal best time of the year, as he checked in with a time of 3:59.13, while Terrence Williams secured the 400-meter championship with a time of 46.96, which was also off his state-best time of 46.68

Earlier in the year, Luke Johnson (Paramount HS) won the decathlon championship with 6199 points, which carried over to the SoCal Championships. He will compete in the 10-event championships over the two days next weekend.
