With their three-game sweep over host Compton College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team is set for their first place showdown. The Falcons (8-6, 3-0) will travel to Long Beach City College (8-8, 2-0) on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. match with the winner taking over sole possession of first place.

In their 25-8, 25-11, 25-19 win over the host Coyotes, the Falcons continued to adjust to a team that is dwindling in numbers due to injuries. Along with the loss of Daniela Luna (Walnut HS/Riverside City College) and Isabela Torres (Gahr HS), the team is now also without Evelyn Soto-Castro (Schurr HS), who was second on the team in kills and also served as their setter.

The offense continued to be led through freshman Jordin Lewis (Warren HS), who slammed home 13 kills in the victory, while freshman Elizabeth Beltran (Santa Fe HS) led the way with 14 kills, while also adding 11 digs in the back row. The two will be looked upon to provide the majority of the attack moving forward, as will freshman Tiffany Teats (Warren HS), who came away with six kills over Compton.

Rotating the setting duties will be freshman Minerva Rodriguez (Gahr HS), who dished out 21 assists, to go along with five digs, while Emma Rivera (Mayfair HS) took over in the third set and accounted for 12 assists. Freshman libero Roselyn Tobie (Maxine Waters HS) led the back row with 25 digs and also helped with three assists, with freshman Gabriella Colombo (Cerritos HS) recording four kills.
