On Friday night, the Cerritos College volleyball team needed just 70 minutes to dispatch visiting Los Angeles City College in their South Coast Conference crossover match. The Falcons (10-8) picked up their second win in a row with their 25-14, 25-11, 25-10 win over the Cubs (1-15). The team resumes South Division play next Wednesday when they travel to El Camino College for a 6:00 p.m. match.

The only drawback to facing a team like LA City was that it ended up hurting the team in the RPI standings, as the Falcons dropped from #21 to #23, with only the top 20 advancing to the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Cerritos led for almost the entire match and scored points at will in certain circumstances. As a team, the Falcons hit .282 and recorded a season-high 17 service aces, with freshman Jordin Lewis (Warren HS) leading the way with eight aces and also led the team with 15 kills. Freshman setter Minerva Rodriguez (Gahr HS), who only appeared in the third set, posted a trio of service aces and dished out 11 assists, with freshman setter Emma Rivera (Mayfair HS) posting 17 assists through the first two sets.

Freshmen Tiffany Teats (Warren HS) and Elizabeth Beltran (Santa Fe HS) both finished with seven kills, with freshman libero Roselyn Tobie (Maxine Waters HS) leading the back row with seven digs, followed by Lewis and her six digs. Freshman Danna Higuera (Gahr HS) tied her season-high with three kills in two sets and also had five digs in the back row.
